London-based Fulham are a football club steeped in history, and are bringing a title-winning
U21 side to take to the field in Kamloops this summer.
The club
Fulham Football Club – whose primary colours are black and white – were founded in 1879
in London, England, when a school teacher and a churchwarden formed a football team for
local boys at St. Andrew’s Church. They won their first piece of silverware seven years later,
beating St. Matthew’s 2-1 in the West London Amateur Cup final.
Since then, supporters at Craven Cottage – the club’s home stadium – have experienced
plenty of highs and lows. Fulham’s 2-1 win in the Europa League semifinal at home to
German side Hamburger SV in 2010, and their Sky Bet Championship title win in 2022, are
two of the most memorable moments in recent history.
Fulham’s men’s first team now play in the English Premier League where they compete
against some of the world’s most renowned soccer teams. It’s a fittingly famous division for
one of London’s oldest football clubs, who have produced high-level homegrown talent from
their academies.
The U21s
Hayden Mullins’ U21 men’s team have just won the Premier League Cup, convincingly
beating fellow London side Tottenham Hotspur U21s 4-0 in the tournament’s final. Callum
Osmand’s emphatic treble no doubt provided sweet revenge after the young Cottagers were
defeated 2-1 by Spurs in the Premier League 2 campaign, before Tottenham went on to lift
the division title.
Fulham U21s have another chance for silverware with the new domestic campaign
underway in August. As well as going for the league and cup titles, they will play in the
Bristol Street Motors Trophy against the senior men's teams of Birmingham City, Walsall, and Shrewsbury Town who they will face one month after taking on the League1 BC Selects in Kamloops.
Several recognizable players have graduated from the Fulham FC academy, including
Belgian international Moussa Dembélé, Chelsea’s Marcus Bettinelli, and Liverpool’s Harvey
Elliott.
Player to watch
A player to watch in this side is Callum Osmand, who joined Fulham at 13 years old. The 18-
year-old striker notched more than 30 goals across his appearances in Fulham’s academy
squads in the 2023/24 season, including a memorable hat-trick in the final of the Premier
League Cup.
He’s a striker who should not be underestimated and will surely be on the hunt for more
goals when the Kamloops International Cup kicks off.
